"Forced to do nothing" for 13 years: now he will receive 500 thousand euros in damages

"Forced to do nothing" and fired twice unlawfully. It is the paradoxical story of a banker, who will receive almost 500 thousand euros in damages because the institution where he worked had demoted him, thus damaging his professionalism. The Court of Appeal of Milan (labor section) has sentenced the Credito Emiliano bank to a large compensation in favor of one of its employees, fired twice - in 2011 and 2018 - reinstated and kept in a lower position than the one he had 15 years ago. A long period of demotion that will cost the institution dearly.
"Do Nothing" DaysIn both dismissals, the Milan court found that there had been no "evidence of persecution or harassment", but it did establish damages towards the man. As reported by Corriere della sera, the judges had established that the bank employee, with a contract at the highest level of executives and just below managers, before 2009, had to return to the branch.
Upon returning to work, the bank kept the worker in a lower position than the one he had in the past. Some colleagues told the Milanese newspaper that the worker "did nothing" for months, given that he had an open lawsuit with the bank: "He had no task, nor assigned duties." According to the worker's lawyer, Domenico Tambasco, the Court of Appeal's ruling "reaffirms the dignity of the worker and respect for his professionalism."
